Meet the Team

Chief Executive Officer - Julia Kermode

I joined BCRT in August 2012, and I feel very privileged to be part of this incredible organisation. I have a personal connection with bone cancer which inspired me to study Biology & Molecular Genetics at Warwick University. Much as I love science, it became apparent that a career in research was not for me, so I pursued charity management instead. Prior to joining BCRT, I have been CEO in two other medical charities where I successfully developed new services, drove sustainable growth and revitalised their strategic direction.

I am over the moon to join BCRT, it is my dream job combining my passion for research with my charity management expertise, and of course my personal connection with bone cancer itself. It is an exciting time to join BCRT, and I am delighted to be part of our amazing achievements.

Operations & Events Manager - Kate Connor

BCRT has been part of my life since 2005 when I took on a voluntary role whilst the charity was still being set up. I cannot believe how far the charity has come since then and it’s just fantastic to see BCRT go from strength to strength. I became the charity’s first member of staff in 2007 and my role has evolved a great deal since then. Initially I was doing everything from managing the website, to supporting our fundraisers, to organising the BCRT conference, to co-ordinating the research grants, to overseeing the campaign for NICE to approve the new osteosarcoma drug Mepact! These days my role is very much focussed on fundraising which is my absolute passion! If I’ve not already asked you to take on a challenge or support BCRT in some other way, don’t you worry, I’ll be in touch very soon.

Accounting Technician - Maggy Banes

I joined BCRT in August 2009 as Accounting Technician and am responsible for the accounts function of BCRT.

My first career was in Orthopaedic Nursing, I then changed direction and moved into Accounting. Prior to joining BCRT, I was Management Accountant for an American owned multi-national company in the service industry sector.

Marketing & Communications Manager - Sheila Sispal

sheila.sispal@bcrt.org.uk
tel. 0113 258 5934

I joined BCRT in May 2012 as Marketing and Communications Manager. Before this, I worked for an organisation that delivered a DfE remit – my role there focused on communications, integrated solutions, brand and publications. I have over 12 years expertise of marketing and communications and have worked across public and private sector.

It’s very exciting to be working for BCRT and I love the challenges and range of work that I’m able to get involved with. BCRT has to be the most worthwhile organisation that I have ever worked for and long may it continue.

Information & Research Officer- Dr Harriet Unsworth

I joined BCRT in April 2012 as Information and Research Officer, and I’m responsible for producing BCRT’s Information Standard accredited patient information, as well as helping to run the research grants programme. Prior to joining BCRT I gained a PhD in molecular biology and then worked as a cancer research scientist.

Fundraising Officer - Holly Rawlings

holly.rawlings@bcrt.org.uk

I joined BCRT in September 2012 and work with our brilliant supporters on their fundraising events, runs, cycles and challenges. I studied Event Management at university and have previously worked in event campaigning at Oxfam GB and event management at an international development charity. I spent 2011 in Fiji, volunteering on a tiny island with the local primary school and their community.

Accounts Assistant - Angela Fallon

angela.fallon@bcrt.org.uk
tel. 0113 258 5934

I joined BCRT as part-time Accounts Assistant in May 2012. I have been accounts manager for my family business for over 17 years. My background is in accounts, but also floristry. I taught floristry for six years at Leeds City College before the Department closed last year.

I'm enjoying the new experience of charity accounting and especially the opportunity to help with events such as the Royal Parks Half Marathon.

Partnerships Manager (UK & Ireland) – Jamie Strachan

jamie.strachan@bcrt.org.uk
tel. 0113 258 5934

I joined BCRT in April 2013 as Partnerships Manager (UK & Ireland). My role looks after schools and company fundraising primarily, looking to develop long term partnerships as well as sponsors for various aspects of our work. I have been in the charity sector since 2008 and can’t imagine doing anything else.

I am absolutely thrilled to be part of BCRT, I have worked for cancer charities before, and am looking forward to helping BCRT grow and develop further. Since starting here I have been struck by how personal BCRT is to our supporters. I look forward to bringing partnerships in who also feel privileged to be part of the organisation.
