Patient Engagement and Support Manager

At the Bone Cancer Research Trust we understand that receiving a primary bone cancer diagnosis is extremely difficult, both for the person diagnosed and for their family and friends. Patients often feel lonely and isolated, we feel that no one should go through this alone.

We provide a supportive network for patients, to limit their feeling of isolation and anxiety. Whilst we do not offer direct professional support, we currently offer a listening ear service, which provides anyone affected by primary bone cancer the opportunity to speak to someone about their diagnosis or issues. On a daily basis we respond to patient requests for support, which normally take the form of providing requested information, putting them in touch with someone who has had a similar experience, or signposting to professional support services.

The demand for these support resources has grown rapidly over the last two years and we are passionate about ensuring that these requests are dealt with professionally and efficiently.

The Patient Engagement and Support Manager will develop and implement a more comprehensive support service; including a dedicated phone line, digital support services, developing a peer support network and organising local support groups. They will work closely with both patients and health care professionals.

You must be a self-motivated individual with a meticulous eye for detail, an excellent communicator and team player. You will have a full understanding of medical terms and be able to translate this into clear, concise information that is suitable and understandable for all audiences. You will need to be organised and have the ability to manage several tasks at once delivering to multiple deadlines. You need to have the ability to deal with sensitive and emotive conversations in a calm, compassionate and respectful manner.

We are looking for a candidate that has previous experience in a healthcare setting, ideally working with cancer patients. We would be extremely interested in receiving applications from candidates with a nursing or physiotherapy background or candidates with experience in a related area.
