On the 15th July the bone cancer community will be trekking the Yorkshire 3 Peaks. Yorkshire's three highest mountains: Pen-Y- Ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough. Climbing 5,200ft and walking 24 miles in just 12 hours!

The response so far from our supporters has been incredibly overwhelming and the Team Bones Trek has turned into so much more for the charity, it is bringing our community together. Researchers in the field of primary bone cancer, healthcare professionals and family and friends of those that have been affected by, or have lost loved ones to primary bone cancer will be walking alongside some of our team members.

Steve and Janet Barker will be joining the Team Bones Trek. Their daughter, Emily, sadly passed away from osteosarcoma. Steve said:

I am going to ‘take on’ the Yorkshire Three Peaks Team Bones Trek in fondest memory of our daughter Emily who sadly lost a gruelling two year fight against Bone Cancer in the prime of her life at the age of 22. In completing this challenge I want to raise further funds to help the Bone Cancer Research Trust raise awareness and find a cure for this devastating disease. I am looking forward to this challenge as I will be with like-minded individuals in one of the most beautiful parts of the UK. I am under no illusion this will be a ‘walk in the park’. Having suffered a heart attack and had a quadruple bypass during Emily’s illness, the way she dealt with her illness inspired my recovery. Her attitude to adversity and challenge was an inspiration to us all! Since we lost Emily to Osteosarcoma in December 2015 we have set up a tribute fund to raise valuable funds for BCRT and with the help of the many people, who knew and loved Emily, we have raised over £30,250 to date.

Steve and Janet, have started their training and recently trekked Whernside. Fellow walkers asked them why they were taking on the challenge and when they told them about Emily and the Team Bones Trek, donations were very kindly made in memory of Emily. The family were extremely touched by such kind gestures.

This is a challenging, but incredibly rewarding trek which will leave you in awe of the outstanding beauty of the Yorkshire Dales along with an incredible sense of achievement.
