Bone Cancer Research Trust supporters join The 2.6 Challenge on Sunday 26 April
The Bone Cancer Research Trust, like so many charities across the UK, has been hugely impacted by the cancellation of so many fundraising events due to Covid-19. In a bid to support charities, the organisers of the London Marathon, along with their partners, have launched The 2.6 Challenge to raise millions of pounds to save the UK's charities.
The 2.6 Challenge will launch on Sunday 26 April – what should have been the date of the 40th London Marathon, the world’s biggest one day annual fundraising event, which raised £66.4 million for charities in 2019.
The 2.6 Challenge is open to anyone of any age – the only requirement is that the activity must follow the Government guidelines on exercise and social distancing.
Sophie, Ben, Tim and Lucy are supporting the Bone Cancer Research Trust by setting themselves a fantastic family challenge of completing 26 exercises at home on Sunday 26th April 2020.
Mat Cottle-Shaw, Head of Fundraising and Communications at the Bone Cancer Research Trust, said:
As with the whole of the United Kingdom, never before have charities faced such uncertainty about their future. It is vital that the country unites behind its amazing charities to ensure their indispensable work can continue, and for that reason, we are delighted to be part of the 2.6 Challenge. At the Bone Cancer Research Trust our income has dropped by 64%, which is a loss of over £680,000, yet demand on our patient Support & Information Service has increased by 64%. This is an unsustainable position, so we are asking all our supporters, like Sophie, Ben, Tim and Lucy who are doing 26 exercises at their home, to step forward and join the 2.6 Challenge. We need the public’s support now more than ever – not only to help bone cancer patients right now, but to offer much-needed hope to bone cancer patients of the future.
