OC&C Strategy Consultants, a global consulting firm, has raised a phenomenal £92,201 in memory of their colleague Sam Fitzsimmons who passed away from Ewing sarcoma aged 23.
The funds, raised as the result of a two-year charity partnership, could support over a year of vital research to help find newer, kinder treatments through Fitzy's Fund — a Special Fund of the Bone Cancer Research Trust.
Sam Fitzsimmons, who worked at the firm for eight months before he died, was a highly-respected and cherished member of the OC&C team. His courage and positivity in the face of Ewing sarcoma inspired colleagues across the organisation, all of whom wanted to come together to honour Sam's memory.
Max Fishwick and Ella Sheenan, charity representatives at OC&C, shared:
We are immensely proud of our team's efforts to fundraise for a cause that's so close to our hearts. The amount raised is a testament to the impact that Sam had on all of us, and we are so pleased that his legacy will live on through the advancements in research that these funds will support.
Sam's family Dominic, Catherine, and Rachel Fitzsimmons, expressed their gratitude for OC&C's support:
We really can't thank OC&C enough for their constant support from the moment Sam was diagnosed, throughout his illness, and then for Fitzy's Fund. The firm were absolutely incredible with Sam, their kindness and understanding never faltered. During such a difficult time in Sam's life, OC&C offered him something more to live for. Sam would be delighted that he is helping others even though he is no longer here, and as a family that means a lot to us too.
Kate Connor, Senior Regional Relationship Manager at the Bone Cancer Research Trust, added:
On behalf of everyone here at the charity, we would like to express our deepest gratitude to OC&C for their continued support of Fitzy's Fund in Sam's honour. Their generosity and commitment is a true reflection of OC&C's company values, along with the lasting impression that Sam left in his short time there. Thanks to their support, we can help ensure that fewer patients like Sam suffer at the hands of this cruel disease.
Sam Fitzsimmons was diagnosed with Ewing sarcoma in July 2018 after experiencing severe pain in his stomach. By this point, tumours had spread throughout his body, and he tragically passed away on 16th May 2020.
