We're very excited to welcome 2016 Olympic Champion, and 2-time World Champion Matt Gotrel to Team Bones!

Gold medallist rower Matt will be swapping oars for bars and going from ergo to turbo when he takes on RideLondon - Surrey for us in July. Matt will be riding in memory of good friend Max, who had osteosarcoma. His dad Martin will also be riding for #TeamBones in celebration of his niece Rosie Rainforth.

We caught up with him to hear about winning Gold in Rio last year and what inspires him.

Age? 28

Height? 195cm

Weight? 95kg

Favourite Food? Indian

Tea or Coffee? Coffee

Favourite Sports? Rowing of course! but sailing in a previous life and I used to love playing football, cricket and tennis when I was younger.

Least favourite sport? Hard to pick one, would give anything a go. Wouldn't make it very far as a synchronised swimmer mind you.

Greatest achievement to date? Becoming Olympic Champion

What inspires you? Trying to be the best I can be. I want to be better tomorrow than I am today.

How did it feel winning Gold in Rio? Pretty surreal! I hadn't thought about what would happen if I won, all I had thought about was winning that race. It was overwhelming and pretty emotional, especially when you think how many people were back home supporting. It was a very proud moment to be able to stand on top of the podium with a gold medal round your neck and the National Anthem playing.

What was the best piece of advice you have been given? Probably not ‘advice’ but something I have learned through someone else believing in me is that if you give 100% to anything, you will be surprised at what you can achieve.

What do you do during your down time? Eat and sleep mainly, that's all I did when I was training. Now I’m having a break I’m enjoying having time to do (all the things I wasn’t allowed to do before!) like skiing and surfing I’m also trying to pick up my saxophone again after 10 years!

Goals for the future? Not sure at the moment, I still haven’t got over Rio. Tokyo isn’t too far away but I’m also ready to get on with my life again, buy a house, start a family etc. as that's all been on hold for the last 6 years.

Want to join Matt on this fantastic route? You'll cycle down closed roads and take in the iconic sights of London before heading out to the beautiful Surrey hills in a modified version of the London 2012 Olympic Road Race. Join #OlympicTeamBones today!
